How To Prioritize Your Mental Health: 6 Tips to Help

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. According to the CDC, it's estimated that 50% of Americans suffer from mental health disorders in their lifetime.

Mental health can mean different things to everyone. During these especially trying times, it's more important than ever to prioritize your mental health. Here are some tips to help you reset and focus on your wellbeing.

  1. Stay Active

Play a sport, walk, run, bike, or strike that yoga pose. Do whatever gets you active. Physical activity is proven to jolt the brain into a feel-good state.

  1. Try a Brain Healthy Diet

Avoid: Sugar, refined foods, hydrogenated oil, and fried food (even though it tastes so good).

Add: Green veggies, berries, almonds, eggs, seeds, dark chocolate, avocado and MCTBars.

  1. Seek Meaning and Purpose

This can take many forms, there is no one answer! It could include volunteering, caring for a pet, gardening, writing or drawing - actively seek new purpose!

  1. Find Social Connections

Make time to facetime and call friends, join a social group, or say hello and wave on your walks!

  1. Manage Stress

Meditate, make a conscious effort to be grateful, read, and make time for leisure.—try some new things until you find what's best for you!

  1. Get Quality Sleep

Make sure your bedroom is dark, cool and quiet. Avoid "screens" 60 mins before bed, and stick to a sleep schedule (even on weekends).

Taking the time to focus on your mental health is a great way to jumpstart a healthier mindset. You may be surprised by how powerful the results will be!
